Doisneau

  • I moved to MIJE Fauconnier hostel today, this one even more beautiful than the last, but my god, 5th floor and no elevator?
  • I went to the Doisneau exhibit at l'Hotel de Ville. It was worth the (unexpected) 45 minute wait. Doisneau is famous for the black and white pictures that capture parisian life from the 1930's? to the 1990's. He is most famous for The Kiss by Hotel de Ville. The pictures I loved the most weren't about romance though, but about city life...dirty children playing street ball, burlesque dancers preparing to go on stage, the rich, the homeless, the tourists...you could tell he loved his city by the way he portrayed both the good and bad in such a beautiful way.

Beautiful staircase. Was that your hotel or hostel? Have to look up the definition of hostel.

"The Kiss by Hotel de Ville" reminds me of the 1945 kiss by Navy Sailor in uniform kissing a nurse in Times Square in New York.

Here's a tip. When a couple approaches ask one of them to snap a photo of you and landmarks. That way if one can't focus good, like some people say they're bad a taking pictures, then the other companion; spouse, girl or boyfriend, or relative can take one of you.

Be sure to include people in your photos and also lots of yourself. As that was my mistake when I travelled alot in the 1970-80's where I took mostly landscapes and items of history; current and past.

Your doing good though with being there almost a week or more now. Lot's of reading for us interested in seeing history and reading about it through your eyes and writing!
